Further to Italy’s preliminary remarks, dated November 14, 2008, Italy is in a position to provide the following additional relevant information:
1. The Italian Basic Law determines the political framework for action and organization of the State.
2. As recalled by Government’s remarks
dated January 2006, the domestic constitutional system, governing the
organization of the State, includes the following principles: democracy (Article
1); the so-called personalistic principle (Article 2), which guarantees
the full and effective respect for human rights; the pluralist principle, within
the framework of the value of democracy (Arts. 2 and 5); the right to work
(Arts. 1, 4, 35 and ff.); the principle of social solidarity (Article 2); the
principle of equality and non-discrimination (Article 3); and above all welfare
